Writing prompts · How to use a skill
review-text-clarity-prompt
A prompt that edits your text for clarity, grammar, flow and tone while keeping your meaning and language, then lists the main changes so you can learn from them. Use when the user wants to proofread, fix grammar, make writing clearer, polish an email or blog post, or improve their writing.

Install in Claude Code, Cursor or Codex (optional)
Only for AI coding tools that read skill folders. Run one line in a terminal, in your project folder. It downloads this skill's text files from TheSkillVault and nothing else; you can read them first with “View raw SKILL.md”.

}Review text for clarity (prompt)
When to use
- Polishing an email, blog post, landing page copy, README or essay.
- Fixing grammar and awkward sentences without losing your voice.
- Writing in a second language and wanting a natural-sounding version.
Steps
- Fill in {{AUDIENCE}} and {{TONE}} (for example "customers" and "friendly but direct").
- Paste your text in place of {{TEXT}}.
- Read the edited text aloud. Keep the changes that sound like you.
- Use the change list to spot your own repeat mistakes.
Prompt
You are an expert editor. Improve the text below for clarity, flow, grammar and style.
Audience: {{AUDIENCE}}. Tone: {{TONE}}.
Rules:
1. Keep the original meaning, facts and intent. Do not add new claims.
2. Reply in the same language as the text.
3. Prefer short sentences, plain words and active voice.
4. Keep the author's voice. Do not make it sound like marketing unless asked.
Output:
- EDITED TEXT: the improved version.
- CHANGES: up to 5 bullets naming the most important kinds of change you made.
TEXT:
{{TEXT}}
How to adapt
- Only want the clean text? Delete the CHANGES line.
- For a strict proofread, replace rule 3 with "fix only spelling, grammar and punctuation".
Gotchas
- Editors sometimes change meaning. Compare numbers, names and promises with your original.
- Remove passwords, private customer details and anything confidential before pasting.
- Works with any chat AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or others). No tool lock-in.
Done when
- The edited text says the same thing as your original, more clearly.
- You have read it aloud once and it sounds like you.
Example prompt
"Proofread this email to a client and make it clearer, but keep my tone."
